Welcome Address by the President of the
Société Française d'Ophtalmologie (SFO)

The Société Française d'Ophtalmologie (SFO) congratulates her great sister, the DOG Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft for her 150 years anniversary. SFO was only born January
29, 1883, so we will have to wait 26 more years to be, in 2033, also 150 years old. But, in the meantime, DOG will also be 26 years older, and the race to become equal, in this particular
point of view, is desperately lost. But as a matter of fact, between both our scientific societies, the correct words to define our links are friendship, cooperation and mutual respect.

This was initiated by Prof. Dr. Christian Hartmann, and we have to remember him, each time we put a step forward in the organization of the European Ophthalmology. The Federation of European Ophthalmology (FEOph) has its roots in this initial remarkable event, thanks to a great German ophthalmologist.

On behalf of the French ophthalmologists, and as the president of SFO, it is my pleasure and my honour to congratulate our friend, the Deutsche Gesellschaft for her splendid past and for
her great future, with the drive of the President, Prof. Dr. Gernot Duncker and the Executive Secretary, Prof. Dr. A. Kampik.
